The Marriott Marquis is located in the heart of downtown Houston and connects via sky bridge to the George R. Brown Convention Center, overlooks Discovery Green Park, and is walking distance to some of Houston’s notable sports, theater, and entertainment venues and restaurants. This luxury hotel supports the city as a premier leisure and meeting destination in the country.

The 29-story, 1,094,575-sf, 1000-room hotel is a significant addition to Houston’s hospitality portfolio. It provides top of the line amenities – retail, restaurants, a basketball court, spa and fitness center, and an amenity deck with gardens, an infinity pool, a Texas-shaped lazy river, and a 3500-sf open-air event pavilion. The hotel also includes a variety of meeting facilities – 52 meeting rooms with over 100,000 sf of flexible meeting space, including a 39,000-sf grand ballroom (the largest in Houston) and a 21,729-sf junior ballroom.

The building’s podium is a six-story hybrid structure of concrete and steel. The 23-story hotel tower rises above a portion of the podium and consists of a cast-in-place concrete system, which continues under the tower into the podium. The other portion of the podium, where the ballrooms and other amenities are located, consists of structural steel with composite concrete slab to respond to the need for long spans at the ballrooms, providing more column-free space.

The hotel tower overlaps the building’s podium and lower ballroom levels at floor seven, requiring the upper floors to be cantilevered at the seventh floor to avoid column placement throughout the ballrooms. The ballrooms use long-span framing to allow for wide-open spaces. The amenity deck sits atop the grand ballroom. To structurally accommodate the heavy deck loads and 145-feet long-spans of the ballroom, floor-height deep structural steel trusses were used.

The hotel opened its doors in December 2016, in time to welcome guests as the city hosted Super Bowl LI.
